Sporting Excellence in YMCA Schools

Nurturing Two Inter-school Basketball Powerhouses

Over the past decade, our Boys’ Basketball Team has achieved remarkable success in the Yuen Long Secondary Schools Area Committee, securing 5 A-Grade, 7 B-Grade, and 4 C-Grade championships. Remarkably, the team captured the A, B, and C-Grade championships simultaneously in both the 2017-18 and 2024-25 seasons, achieving a ‘Grand Slam’ record that is extremely outstanding in the district.

Key Figure: Ma Kong-san (Alumnus)

Standing at 2.08 metres at the time, Ma was the "Pillar of the Paint" who led our school to its first-ever Yuen Long Secondary Schools Area Committee A-Grade championship and reached the quarter-finals of All Hong Kong Schools Jing Ying Basketball Tournament. Following his stellar performance at CYMCASS, he earned opportunities to develop his career overseas. He was selected for the Hong Kong Men’s National Team. Besides, he joined a professional Division 1 team. In 2025, he joined the Sichuan Whales Basketball.

CYMCASS Girls’ Basketball Team

In 2025, our Girls’ Basketball Team competed in All Hong Kong Schools Jing Ying Basketball Tournament showcased an indomitable spirit and claimed the second runner-up spot. Captain Lam Cheuk Tung won two individual awards - "Best 3-Point Shooter" and "Leader in steals" in the girls’ category. She was named to the "Girls’ All-Star Team" alongside her teammate Chan Tsz-ying.

Javelin Achievements Ranked Number One in Asia

Our student, Kwan Yan Yi, secured the U18 Girls’ Javelin championship at the “Hong Kong Junior Age Group Athletic Championships 2025 – Meet 1,” simultaneously breaking the Hong Kong U18 Girls’ Javelin record. Representing Hong Kong at the “Asian U18 Athletics Championships” in Dammam, Saudi Arabia, Kwan claimed the gold medal with an outstanding throw of 54.04 metres. This achievement propelled her to the top spot in Asia, with her seasonal world ranking soaring to number two – a truly phenomenal result.

Kwan is currently a member of the Hong Kong Athletics Team. Her sporting potential was discovered by her teachers back in Form 1. Her training under Mr. Chow Pui Yin – an alumnus and coach of the school’s athletics team – combined with her own relentless dedication, culminated in her outstanding achievements today, a true reflection of the proud legacy of “passing the torch” at the College.

Chinese Y.M.C.A. Primary School (CYMCAPS)

At the primary school level, we focus on nurturing students’ interest in sports. CYMCAPS makes excellent use of AI and Big Data to ensure children of different abilities and personalities enjoy participating, building confidence and a sense of achievement. Our approach includes:

  • Introducing 3D motion big data analysis, biometric technology, and AI-powered “exercise prescriptions” to create personalised sports profiles and training recommendations for every student.
  • Through heart rate monitoring and AI analysis, students learn to use “effort and self-improvement” as indicators of success rather than just winning or losing. For instance, an obese student may find that having the “highest heart rate” means they have given their absolute best.
  • Our unique curriculum design strikes a perfect balance between enjoyment and educational objectives, introducing sports by rock climbing, korfball, billiards, fencing, and cycling. This allows every student, regardless of their personality or ability, to find their own stage to shine.
