Celebrating the 125th Anniversary of Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong
Launch of the 125th Anniversary Commemorative Video Series –
Using AI to Present the Journey of Happiness across Generations

The Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong (YMCA) was founded at the Bridges Street in Sheung Wan in 1901, it has been committed to serving the community for over a century. In 1966,  Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong relocated its headquarters to Waterloo Road, Yau Ma Tei, Kowloon, establishing its roots in the vibrant heart of Kowloon. Over the years, the Association has provided comprehensive services in recreation, education, healthcare, and hospitality for families, children, youth and seniors—walking with generations as they grow and bearing witness to the transformation of our society.

This year marks an important milestone—Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong celebrates its 125th Anniversary! A series of celebratory activities will be launched, including a photo contest, a kick-off ceremony and a sports carnival, the Hong Kong youth gospel basketball tournament, volleyball league, the 125 charity run, and a conference on wellbeing. The public is warmly invited to join this journey of happiness across generations. Details will be continuously updated on the YMCA’s website and social media platforms.

The first episode of the 125th Anniversary Commemorative Video Series is launched today. Discover how the Bridges Street Centre transformed from a historic clubhouse into a cultural treasure of Hong Kong. The Bridges Street Centre is our first self-financed unit, purpose-built to serve the Chinese community, and today it stands as a historical monument that reflects the YMCA’s pioneering spirit and enduring commitment to the city.

The 125th Anniversary video series consists of 5 episodes. Using AI technology to bring colours to old photographs, the videos combine historical and present-day footage of the Bridges Street Centre, Kowloon Centre, and Wu Kwai Sha Youth Village to showcase how Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong connects communities and passes on happiness across generations.
