“Future Smart Furniture 2024” Programme

The Free STEAM Curriculum for Primary and Secondary School Students to Practice Science is now open for application

(Hong Kong, 1 December 2023) – Dah Sing Bank Limited (“Dah Sing Bank”) is committed to supporting youth development and promoting STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) education and making it universal, and has partnered with the Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong (“YMCA”) to organise STEAM courses for school children for six consecutive years. Recently, Dah Sing Bank and YMCA jointly launched the “Future Smart Furniture 2024” programme, which will continue to focus on STEAM science topics and provide a series of courses covering Internet of Things, mathematics applications, scientific inquiry and mechanical programming for local students, so that they can use their scientific knowledge to design and make different future smart furniture and integrate creative thinking into their daily lives. The programme is fully funded by Dah Sing Bank for 80 local primary and secondary school students aged 10 to 16 (priority given to low-income families) and is divided into three phases: an 18-hour training course, an observation field trip and a public exhibition of students’ works closing ceremony.

Ms May Wong Wong, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Senior Executive Director and Head of Group Personal Banking, Dah Sing Bank, said, “Over the past few years, Dah Sing Bank has launched a number of interesting and diversified STEAM learning programmes, which have benefited hundreds of young people. We hope that this course will inspire the potential of students to design and make their own smart furniture to take home and share with their families. We also look forward to witnessing the learning outcomes of our children with the public.”

Mr. Lau Chun-chuen, Executive Director of the Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong, said, “STEAM education can nurture young people’s innovative thinking and problem-solving skills through diverse knowledge. The YMCA can connect with the business and academia through its professional expertise to jointly promote STEAM education, equip students, and align with the general direction of Hong Kong’s future I&T development.”

The application period is from 1 to 31 December, enquiries: 2886 2751 / 2775 6033.
