Youth & Elderly Information Literacy Sync Day

With the ever-evolving tactics of online scams, understanding various scamming techniques is essential to effectively prevent being deceived! The YMCA “InnoTech Movement Working Group” held the “Youth & Elderly Information Literacy Sync Day” in March. The group recruited 35 youth and elder volunteers and conducted in-depth training, learning how to avoid the latest types of online and offline scams. Together, they designed a social simulation game to teach 100 elderly from different social service organisations about scam prevention knowledge

On the day of the event, participants held a game card in the social simulation game and visited each booth to collect points. The booth volunteers employed clever tactics to offer fake points, allowing participants to experience scam situations firsthand.

The officers from the New Territories South Regional Crime Prevention Office and Police Community Relation Office (Sha Tin District) were on-site to promote the latest scam prevention information
This event not only equipped the elderly with scam prevention knowledge but also created excellent collaboration opportunities for youth and elder volunteers.

We will continue to provide elder and youth volunteers with more training focused on online safety to jointly promote digital inclusion in the community, enhancing information literacy and scam awareness
